Pakistan Brings Global Cancer Advances Closer to Clinical Practice

Karachi: The Society of Medical Oncology-Pakistan (SMO-P) hosted the officially licensed Best of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2026 Annual Meeting from Aug 28 to 30, bringing together national and international oncology experts to discuss recent developments in cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

Held in Lahore, the meeting focused on translating advances in global cancer research into clinical practice in Pakistan, where access to specialist care and innovative therapies remains a challenge.

Sessions covered access to new cancer medicines, emerging therapies, multidisciplinary care, immunisation in cancer patients and the application of clinical research in routine practice.

The conference also featured interactive sessions for younger oncologists, including Meet the Experts, panel discussions and the RECON ONCO-thon, aimed at strengthening oncology education and professional development.
