Pakistan’s T20 Squad Gears Up for New Zealand Tour with Departure of Six Players

In anticipation of the highly awaited five-match T20 International series against New Zealand, a contingent of six players from the Pakistan T20I squad set off on Wednesday night for Auckland via Dubai from Lahore.

The chosen six players, featuring Abbas Afridi, Azam Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haseebullah Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Sahibzada Farhan, actively engaged in an intensive four-day camp at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. Under the guidance of high-performance coach Yasir Arafat, the camp focused on refining modern T20 cricket skills through rigorous training sessions and match scenario drills. The preparatory phase concluded on Tuesday, marking the end of the camp.

Apart from the departing group, nine other players—Ahmed Shehzad, Arif Yaqoob, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Amir Khan, Mohammad Haris, Mohammad Imran, Omair Bin Yousaf, Sajjad Ali Jnr, and Shahab Khan—participated actively in the comprehensive series preparation camp.

Left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz, released from the Test squad, shifted his focus to training alongside bowlers Zaman Khan, Haris Rauf, and Usama Mir, specifically gearing up for the T20I series. This quartet is slated to depart from Australia for Auckland on January 5, reuniting with the remaining T20 squad members.
