Multan: Pakistan witnesses a surge in seed cotton (Phutti) arrivals, reaching an impressive 8.17 million or 81,71,082 bales at ginneries nationwide by Dec 31, 2023. This marks a substantial 77.14% increase compared to the same period in 2022.
According to the latest fortnightly report from the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) released on Wednesday, the influx to factories spiked by over 3.5 million bales. Consequently, the recorded increase stands at 77.14% for 2023 till Dec 31, as opposed to the corresponding period in 2022.
In Punjab, ginning factories witnessed the arrival of over 4 million or 40,78,769 bales, showcasing a notable increase of 1.3 million bales, translating to a 47.66% surge from 2022. Meanwhile, Sindh documented arrivals of over 4 million or 40,92,313 bales, demonstrating an impressive jump of 2.241 million bales and a substantial 121.16% increase compared to the corresponding period in 2022.
The ginning factories processed over 8 million or 80,82,744 bales, contributing to the thriving textile sector, which emerged as the leading buyer with a purchase of over 7.3 million or 73,14,127 bales. Exporters and traders collectively acquired 2,92,126 bales.
Nationwide, a total of 241 ginning factories were operational, with 210 located in Punjab alone, generating over 4 million or 40,80,064 bales in the province. Balochistan recorded the arrival of 187,221 bales at ginneries.
As of now, 5,64,829 bales remain unsold, presenting a considerable stock at various ginneries across the country.
